10 Random Classic #GoExtraHard Mixtapes

"Mixtapes are incredible because they're straight from a brother's heart, Music that they really feel,
not music that just researches well. That's special, and that's my favorite way to listen to music: mixtapes." --- LL Cool J (Source: MTV.com; Click here for source attribution )

Well the last time I went random and viral it had more views than any other post I have made. So why not get random again. This time, i'm on mixtapes. Since the retail market has changed, many artist have went into the mixtape game. DJ's such as DJ DRAMA, DJ WHOO KID along with affiliations such as TRAP-A-HOLICS have created some legendary mixtapes. These are just a few that have had major impact with superior content and revolutionary style. Some of them I play, some of them I merely recognize their impact. THERE IS NO ORDER OR RANKING. Just Riding Music, At High Volume.... Peace  - K.S.

He is probably responsible for teaching cats how to strategically place drops on mixtapes, create a bonafide identity and have a truly all star cast on your mixtape. This mixtape still bangs after all of these years. This mitxape also went platinum. (And so did the sequel)  Key Tracks: Ruff Ryders' Anthem (Remix), Queensfinest, I Like Control, It's My Thang '99

The enforcer of the Maybach Music Empire, he has proven to his critics that he is a substaintial and influential force in Philly Hip Hop as well as the world. And one more thing, he shuts "Dat Piff" down when he releases a mixtape...Nothing further. Key Tracks: Amen. Use To Be, Lean Wit It, House Party (Remix)

A match truly made in heaven. An incredible mixtape with DJ DRAMA once again being a pioneer as well as displaying his broad range of the knowledge and history of modern day hip hop. DEAD PREZ delivering the goods as always in a market that is saturated with "perservatives". This mixtape is one of the greats and one of my personal favorites. Key Tracks: Malcolm Garvey Huey, Never Turn My Back, Let The People Be Heard, Lil' Ghetto Boys

A half a million downloads later and I am still wondering if the industry is ready for this brother. They wasn't ready for L.O.X., They wasn't ready for all the classic albums he was featured on. His own albums were light years better than most of the competition. He is just better than his time, then and now. Incredible mixtape hosted by once again DJ DRAMA. Key Tracks: By The Bar, Paper Tags, Hustle Like a Muh, Dope Boy

Trap-A-Holics and DJ Holiday? The mitxape game wouldn't be the same without them at all. The placement of the drops combined with sound effects that some of the veteran mixtape DJs are biting now make them some of the hood ambassadors of this mixtape industry. WAKA FLOCKA goes extra hard on this mixtape which makes it a trap favorite. Over 300,000 downloads isn't bad either. Key Tracks:  Rap Game Stressful, Ferrari Boyz, Clap, Pole

We should all pause right now and give New York City a standing ovation for inventing and perfecting this "Hip Hop thing." In fact, a New York City packaged hip hop product looks and feels more authentic than "the competitors brand" as illustrated by this mixtape. I remember using getting my "white labeled" typed mixtapes off the ave when I visited the city. This mixtape "sounds just like those". Amazing from two legends in the game PETE ROCK and the group CAMP LO. Key Tracks: No Uniform, You Have Never Seen A City Like (The Bronx), No Hook, 4 The O.G.s

I guess one day those who still doubt him will truly understand the range of this artist. Yes he sings for ladies, but this guy will probably destroy a "stadium" of veterans...at the same time. Even the guy's mixtapes go platinum, without a major host. I have been listening to hip hop since AM radio. The guy is good man. Real good. Key Tracks: Uptown, Ignant Sh*t, Successful, Best I Ever Had

I remember having a debate with a cat one night DJ'n spinning some Snoop (which by the way never goes out of style to me), and this cat told me he was whack. I didn't take offense, I just knew that perhaps my 30 plus years of listening to hip hop had made me loyal to a certain "brand". This classic mixtape was the prelude to the album and was hosted by three mixtape legends. It still bangs EXTRA HARD, and Snoop? The brother has been in the game making hits and was the featured emcee on "The Chronic", Did you hear me.."The Chronic man.."....the brother is far from whack. Key Tracks: LAX, Candy, We Do, Vato

Better late than never. He just did a show in Nashville in October of 2013. I have been bumpin this mixtape since it came out and he has been hot like fish grease SINCE HE'S BEEN OUT. No major host for this mixtape, but nearly half a million downloads. He rarely comes "incorrect". Key Tracks: Soft, Blog That, Nobody's Safe, Turn It Up

Can anyone really rap better than Busta Rhymes? A compliation of classics by Gangsta Grillz three headed monster Trendsetter Sense, Don Cannon and DJ Drama. Been a fan since day one. "From start to finish.." Key Tracks: Touch It Remix, Cannon, Really Wanna Do, It Ain't Over

  2. Excellent input. In fact the entire Lil Wayne Squad Up series (1-7) has nearly a half million downloads collectively. Considering the dates of there release, that is phenominal. The link for Squad 5 is here: http://www.datpiff.com/Sqad-Up-SQ5-mixtape.1887.html. His mixtapes continue to do one million plus. Thanks for your input!
